A dinner date in Llandovery for HRH The Prince of Wales

The Prince of Wales will be attending a fundraising event in Wales on 5th November. The dinner will be held at Llandovery Rugby Football Club, Carmarthenshire in the presence of His Royal Highness, and stars of the rugby world. The aim is to raise money for charities including Ty Hafan and The Prince's Trust.

Lawray Architects have strong links with Llandovery RFC, having designed the spectator stands and carried out various grounds improvements over the years. Arnot Hughes, Managing Director, has attended many games and events as a former player at the Club.

PRINCE CHARLES TO ATTEND TRIBUTE DINNER

Prince Charles is attending the Welsh Charitables RFC fundraising dinner in honour of John Dawes, the legendary former Wales and British Lion centre.
 
It is being held in the evening of Friday 5th November at Llandovery RFC. Prince Charles is the Patron of Llandovery RFC, President of The Prince's Trust and Patron of Ty Hafan, two of the charities who will benefit from the night.
 
David Power, secretary of the Welsh Charitables RFC, said: "My jaw dropped and I was speechless when I opened the letter that confirmed Prince Charles was attending. This is our tenth anniversary dinner so having the prince attend is an amazing tribute to all of our hard work."
 
"We aim to hold fundraising events throughout Wales and have chosen Carmarthenshire as our new President Brian Jones, Managing Director of Castell Howell Foods, has his business in the county."

The star-studded night will be packed full of rugby players including Clive Rowlands, John Taylor, Gareth Edwards, Dai Watkins, Mervyn Davies, JJ Williams, Delme Thomas, Derick Quinnell, Terry Cobner, John Perkins, Steve Sutton, Bryn Meredith, Stuart Watkins, Dai Morris, Keith Jarrett, Barry John, Tom David, Richard Smith, Graham Price, Paul Thorburn, Steve Fenwick, Brynmor Williams, Adrian Hadley and Robert Jones. The dress code is Black Tie.

Bio:

Sidney John Dawes played for Newbridge and London Welsh. He played for Wales 22 times, six as captain and that included leading them to the Grand Slam in 1971. He was captain for the 1971 British and Irish Lions tour to New Zealand. This has been the only Lions team to win a series in New Zealand.
 
He was captain of the Barbarians that beat New Zealand in Cardiff in 1973 that featured Gareth Edwards' famous try. Dawes was never beaten by England either as a player or coach.
 
Dawes became coach of Wales in 1974, a post he held until 1979. This was one of the most successful periods in the history of Welsh rugby, with the team winning the Five Nations four times including two Grand Slams. He also coached the 1977 British and Irish Lions tour to New Zealand. He is the president of London Welsh RFC and has written several books on rugby union.
 
The Welsh Charitables RFC raise money for St Anne's Hospice, WREX (The Welsh Rugby Former International Players Benevolent Association) Ty Hafan, the family hospice for young lives, the Princes Trust Cymru and St David's Foundation Hospice Care.
