The Grade 2* listed building was adapted to accommodate improved welfare facilities for pupils and teachers whilst improving DDA access. The design also included additional teaching space creating a light and functional / spacious environment.
The extension was also designed to cause minimal disturbance to the existing structure and by using cedar redwood, from sustainable sources, will over time change to silver grey and blend into the existing Grade 2* building.
The proposals involved detailed negotiations with Planning, Listed Building / Conservation Officers and the Client to ensure the development achieved its purpose appeasing to all.
Following a competitive tender process, further negotiations took place to ensure the scheme remained within the tight budget set by the Client.
These facilities ensured continued operation of this small primary school whilst other schools faced possible closure
