This £6m project consisted of the complete refurbishment of the original 160 seat theatre, construction of a new 248 seat auditorium, improvements to the entrance and front of house areas and the conversion of a separate Grade ll listed building to create a media centre.

The project benefited from and attracted Objective l EU funding from various sources including the Arts Council for Wales, Ceredigion County Council and the Welsh Assembly Government (then the Welsh Development Agency). To ensure minimum disruption to trade, the project was completed in four phases:

The opening of the refurbished film theatre generated both local andnational Welsh media interest with the BBC and S4C broadcasting live on the opening night from Theatr Mwldan.
