Lawray is currently developing the Masterplan for the University campuses at Penglais and Gogerddan.
Following a written submission including a full design team, we were successful in winning the project at interview.
The review includes all existing buildings, pedestrian and vehicle circulation, DDA issues, building condition surveys, space evaluation of the sites and landscape features.
The brief was to provide new building for the Sports and Exercise Science Department. The building contains a mixture of teaching and research labs along with offices to the first floor. Cost: £1.2m Commenced 2003 and completed in 2004 - on time and on budget.
Lawray were appointed as Architects to provide full service under traditional JCT contract.
In 2008, Lawray were commissioned to provide a feasibility to extend the existing building with a 2 storey extension to provide additional accommodation. Feasibility was approved in early 2009 and Lawray have been appointed as contract administrators to take the job to completion under traditional JCT contract. Works have commenced and building due for completion in April 2010.
"May I take this opportunity to thank you and your staff ... for all your support and professionalism throughout the process. We are delighted with the extension to the Carwyn James Building. It surpasses what we had hoped for. Thank you once again."
Prof. David Lavallee, Head of Department, Department of Sport and Exercise Science, Aberystwyth University
Lawray project managed the new building for the Department of Theatre Film and T.V. (Architects: Patel Taylor).
The Arts Centre (Architects: Smith Roberts) was also project managed by Lawray.
Lawray Architects designed the new extension which included a new rehearsal / performance space and staff offices to cater for the expanding needs of the department. Approximate value £2m.
Lawray carried out a feasibility study for a new Visualisation Building at UWA. We developed the brief and completed a RIBA Stage D design for the University to apply for a grant for a new facility linked to the Physics Department. The facility was designed as a "virtual reality" space where cells and other matter can be viewed from "within", and also housed administrative offices. Approx value £5m.
Refurbishment during the 1990’s of a number of Laboratories and Teaching Rooms in two of the Institute buildings. This involved stripping out over 30 rooms, replacing equipment with the latest technology and upgrading to state of the art facilities.
More recently an application was made by Aberystwyth University for a Welcome Trust JIF grant bid for science based research buildings. It consisted of high grade research labs and plant breeding facilities. Approximate value £29m. The scheme was designed to RIBA Stage D. Unfortunately the funding was declined.
