The Mount

Project name: The Mount
Client: Carmarthen county Council on behalf of Carmarthen Association of Voluntary Services (CAVS)
Value: £1.3 million
Date: 2008-9

The Mount is positioned on a prominent site at the top of Goal  Hill, adjacent to the County Hall in the centre of Carmarthen.

This office building replaced an original listed building which had fallen into disrepair.
As the building is within a conservation area Listed Building consent was a requirement and public consultation approved the building design.

The building is four storey with one storey being  a basement.

It is a bespoke office building designed specifically for CAVS, which is a County Council sponsored organisation, and provides  782 square metres of floor space providing offices, meeting rooms, library, IT suite, and a recording studio.

The design incorporated extensive facilities for visually and physically disabled clients of the voluntary organizations.

CAVS is a County Council sponsored organisation which assists and provides support to the voluntary sector  in Carmarthenshire.

The Mount acts as a centre in the town for voluntary services to use as a ‘drop in’ and a facility to use meeting rooms and offices.

Rod Wilcox, Lawray Project Manager for The Mount was awarded with The Townscape Award by the Carmarthen Civic Society in recognition of efforts to conserve and improve the townscape of Carmarthen
