Siemens, Clean Room

Client: Siemens/DPC, Llanberris
Project: New Clean Room, Chill Store & Assembly Facility
Value: £1.7m
Date: 2003-4

Lawray were appointed as Design Architects for this American based company who have had established premises in North Wales since 1992.

Siemens/DPC are manufacturers of blood diagnostic kits used throughout the world to diagnose disease and abnormalities in the blood. Due to their success additional production space was needed and it was decided that the kit assembly and storage/distribution were to be moved to a new building which would release the space required in the adjacent existing building to allow expansion of manufacturing.

The new building, which complements the existing premises, provides a total floor area of 45000 square foot and takes separate kit elements manufactured in the existing building and assembles the kits which are then placed in the new 31000 square foot high bay Chill Store with the temperature maintained between 2 and 8 degrees prior to distribution.

Assembly areas provide a clean room environment with washable surfaces.

Careful consideration of logistics was required throughout the design stages and involved extensive consultation with the Client’s team with the flow of product between the buildings a major factor and also the cross flow of product within the new facility.

5500 square feet of Office and ancillary Staff Accommodation are also provided over three floors.
