Tyn Dwr Hall in Llangollen operated as a Youth Hostel from the end of the Second World War until August 2007 when The University of Central Lancashire purchased the property to provide an Outdoor Educational Centre. Lawray were appointed as Lead Consultant to deliver this important project for UCLan.

The property is a Grade 2 Listed Building and has undergone an extensive up-grade to provide three star hotel accommodations with conference facilities together with teaching facilities for outdoor education. 

The Hall provides a centre for team building exercises for UCLan’s students and future plans include offering the Centre on a commercial basis for conferences and training events.

The £1.9million project provides bedrooms with en-suite shower room, including a wheelchair accessible en-suite bedroom, Classrooms and I.T. suite, Dining and Bar facilities and Offices. In addition an ancillary detached building will provide Canoe and Equipment Storage for outdoor pursuits.

The Tyn Dwr Hall project has recently received the following awards: -

Llangollen Civic Society Award 2009 - For the sympathetic restoration and renovation of a Victorian Building (presented to The University of Central Lancashire)

North Wales LABC Building Excellence Awards 2010 - County Winner: Best Commercial Development (less than £1 million). Presented to Read Construction, lead contractor on the project.
