Initially the existing theatre wished to increase its front of house and administrative office accommodation.
During the feasibility stage the adjacent building used by the Education Authority became available and the scheme was increased to include a new studio theatre on the site, as well as a gallery, exhibition space, new restaurant, reception and foyer facilities.
The project was largely funded by the Arts Council for Wales.
